Warning: Using a VPN, whether PiGuard or Tor, only secures the transit of your data on the Internet. A VPN is simply a pipe that encrypts your data and routes it to an exit point where the Internet is uncensored and unmonitored, whether you are downloading a legitimate document or a virus.
Configuration
A graphical interface allows you to modify the PiGuard configuration. This can be accessed once connected to the PiGuard wifi network via a web browser at http://192.168.50.10:8000.
Wifi network
- Network name (SSID): piguard
- Default Wifi password: Strongpassword!@@333
Administration interface
- Adresse http://192.168.50.10:8000
- Default user name: n2h
- Default password: Protecttheinformation
Once you have logged in, you will be taken to the home page. If all goes well, you should see a green ‘Connected’ button. If not, go to the Troubleshooting section.
Wifi network
Before you start, we recommend that you change the default wifi network password. Write it down somewhere, because if you forget it, you won’t be able to use PiGuard’s secure connection.
Network connection
PiGuard offers two censorship bypass technologies: VPN or Tor. The user can choose either connection mode via the administration interface.
- VPN is based on WireGuard. If a VPN server is blocked, PiGuard will automatically connect to another server, in another country, with another IP address, transparently for the user.
- In the most authoritarian contexts, the VPN protocol itself may be blocked, regardless of the server address. With PiGuard, you can change the connection mode and use the Tor network and obsproxy technology.

Basic troubleshooting
However, before contacting this address, here are a few points to check:
- Check that your Internet box (access provider) is working and that the Internet connection is stable from a device directly connected to it.
- Check that the Ethernet cable running from the Raspberry pi has not been inadvertently disconnected.
- If you are using a 4G mobile key, check that your mobile operator’s connection is operational: plug the key directly into your computer
- Check that the electrical connection is correct and that the red LED on the Raspberry pi is lit.
- Remove the SD card from its slot and put it back in, then reboot.
- Unplug the Raspberry pi and plug it back in again. Wait 5 minutes. If you can’t see the Piguard Wifi network, you can contact your country’s project manager.
